February 2022 saw the launch of a new version of the brilliant M.Zuiko 12-40mm F2.8 PRO. Already the original version is, in my opinion, one of the best lenses. The second version brings better sealing against the vagaries of the weather and a fluoride coating on the front glass. The optical system should remain the same. So let’s take a look at the lenses themselves first, traditionally in GIF form.

M.Zuiko 12-40mm F2.8 PRO I vs II

There are no physical differences, only the sun visor has undergone a few minor modifications. It’s taller, a bit more plastic and has one recessed locking button versus two protruding ones.

The following are comparison photos of the two lenses. I shot on the OM-1, all handheld photos, and the settings were always identical for each lens. Try to guess which photo is taken with the first version and which with the second. The solution is at the end of the gallery 🙂

I hope you enjoyed and found the essential differences. Anyone who guessed correctly that the second column contains photos from the new M.Zuiko 12-40mm F2.8 PRO II guessed correctly. I didn’t find any differences in optics, so it’s just the bonuses of better sealing and fluoride coating. The official price is also a bit lower.
